For START UPS
Welcome to the SNA's entrepreneurs' club:
The primary purpose of SMARTpreneur is to encourage individuals, particularly those in the energy field, to explore the opportunities that exist to start their own business and contribute their skills and experience to building a future for themselves and their families.
We assist skilled tradespeople and other skilled individuals to transition from employee to employer by providing resources, assistance, and mentoring in establishing their own business.
SMARTpreneur does this by acting as a doorway and filter to the vast resources available to the new entrepreneur from both the Internet and other sources.
Through the contributions of our partner, the Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW), SMARTpreneur has been able to create a number of virtual support services for our members, including:
A QuickStart Guide for new SMARTpreneurs to help them get started and begin the steps of mapping out their strategy and approach to creating their Start-Up business. This is a self-directed, just-in-time training tool.
A Monthly e-Newsletter that includes inspirational stories, relevant video resources, suggested market-driven opportunities, and links to relevant articles in the news.
Personalized coaching and mentoring. SMARTpreneurs have access to an experienced business coach and mentor who can provide face-to-face, electronic, and/or telephone support.
Business Bites. These are a series of information-packed resources to help you start and run your business. Check out the Resources section.
Networking. We provide access to contact information so that SMARTpreneurs can collaborate to bid on projects.
Opportunity identification. We provide electronic and telephone access to a resource person to assist SMARTpreneurs with the identification of appropriate RFP and tender documents.
Entrepreneurship Certificate Program. As a SMARTpreneur, you have access to this custom-built program that was created with Centennial College. This program is offered virtually and is eligible for the RRSP-Life-Long Learning Plan funding.
Group coaching webinars and live broadcasts on our Internet-based Nexus TV Channel and the creation of a just-in-time learning website that features the very latest information available on the emerging industries
Entrepreneurial Self-Assessment. Here is a tool from the Business Development Bank of Canada to help better measure your entrepreneurial potential. This questionnaire includes 50 statements, and will take about 10 minutes to complete. There are no right or wrong answers. Your honest opinion is what counts. Your responses are strictly confidential. Go to questionnaire.
A 52-week Business Development e-Course that is delivered by e-mail every Friday morning. These bite-sized chunks of training, if followed, provide the SMARTpreneur with the tools and tactics necessary to start and grow an effective business.
